Miras International School, Astana (a member of the Nursultan Nazarbayev Educational Foundation) formally opened on September, 2, 1999 as a private educational institution offering an integrated curriculum based on the Kazakhstani National educational standards and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IB) Programmes. Our school was accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), the Council of International Schools (CIS) in 2004 and re — accredited in November, 2014. The school has also been authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization for the Middle Years Programme since 2004, with the latest evaluation visit in 2013, the Primary Years Programme since 2007, with the latest evaluation visit in November, 2015 and the Diploma Programme since 2011.
The IB programmes promote education for the whole person by instilling attributes of a “life-long learner” embodied in the IB Learner Profile. The school philosophy is based on the IB mission and emphasizes intellectual, personal and social growth of an individual student through all knowledge domains.
The School provides a holistic, stimulating, balanced and challenging education focusing on the dynamic combination of knowledge, skills, independent critical and creative thinking and international-mindedness. The programs follow three stages: Pre-School to Grade 5; Grades 6–10; Grade 11 and DP Grades 11–12.
A French section was opened at Miras International School in the 2011–2012 academic year for French-speaking students.
Within the school community students are provided with opportunities to reveal their aptitude, demonstrate potential and exhibit achievements participating in various intellectual and sporting events and contests, assemblies and our extended after-school activities programme, including Music school. Special attention is given to the Service as action programme emphasizing the best of human qualities.
Although our school is only sixteen years old, students have achieved much success in Astana city earning awards for subject Olympiads and Science projects particularly in Mathematics, Geography, Chemistry, Kazakh, English and French. The contributions of eleven of our students have been recognized and they have received the special ECIS Award for International Understanding.
School graduates are currently attending universities both in Kazakhstan and in countries overseas, notably the Czech Republic, China, Great Britain, USA, France and Russia.
The school offers a daily three-meal board, medical and psychological services.
